 Annual Club Tournament                           

This years tournament will be organised differently over a couple of Saturdays, with various later Finals Days for adults.

Juniors (under 18's) will play on Friday Junior nights and at coaching weekend sessions.

The 2010 Season at Bertram  

We open the new season in April and all members will have recently received Membership Renewal forms along with a copy of the February Newsletter.   You are reminded that fees for the 2010/11 season were due by 31st March 2010, and prompt payment does enable your Committee to plan and budget ahead for the expected and desired expenditure that will keep the Club moving forward, as we have been so successfully in recent years. We also enclosed a New Membership form to pass on to your friends and neighbours who may be interested in joining us.

We have now finished the court cleaning programme to reinstate the very green surfaces which were lost under two years of grime. This has certainly improved the appearance of the four playing courts, but more importantly it will improve grip and assist with surface water drainage. Volunteer members have done the work, led by Dave Martin, and it really was very slow progress. The work took us two and a half months using a hired high pressure water washer. It was of course worth it as when it was done professionally two years ago it cost us £2000. We have actually improved upon that previous cleaning because we had 'free' labour and the right equipment, especially to remove the resultant surface water and wash away the dirt deposits.  

  There have also be changes in the Coaching set up from April.  Mike Schorah has left the Club due to increased work commitments at Calday Grammar School where he is now a sports coach. We thank Mike for five years hard work at Bertram and wish him well in the future.

We are pleased to announce that Tom Cox has joined us as mini-tennis and junior coach from April - Click on our new 'Tom'sTennis Coaching' page from the tabs on the left of this page.

LATEST NEWS:  Sarah Case-Upton has also joined the Bertram Coaching team from April.  Sarah is an LTA DCA (Level 3) Coach.

She will be doing girls only session on a Saturday morning 9.00 to 10.30am, and is also available for adult coaching on Monday evenings (see Sarah's coaching page on the left tabs of this page).

Our league teams have been very active during the winter and that should allow us to take some good form in to the Summer Wirral League, which starts 27th April. We have two mixed teams playing in the 3rd and 4th divisions, and there are also regular friendly matches from 8th April, for those keen to get competitive experience without the pressure of league results.

This year will also see a different format in Club competitions, and we started with an American Tournament on Saturday 10th April, followed by a Barbecue. This tournament allowed lots of different standards of players to give it a go. Players moved round after a few games of doubles and changed partners throughout the competition, but we still found our winners, Helen Morgan and Tom Wojtak - see our website page for photo. It was a great way to meet people and play with players who can also lift your game. Following requests we will be arranging another American Tournament later in the year. 

The Newsletter also confirmed that we have been granted a £2500 donation from the 'Your Wirral' Fund to refurbish the two changing rooms. Work has began with the provision of a new storage cupboard in the Men's changing room. New floor tiles have also be fitted in the main Clubhouse area.

Tennis Clubmark is the Lawn Tennis Association's Club accreditation programme.

Achieving Clubmark means the LTA endorses and supports the tennis programmes we deliver on the courts, and the policies and procedures we have in place off court. These are crucial in assuring we provide a safe environment for junior members and ensures we run the Club professionally to LTA & Sport England standards. It may take us many months to satisfy the exacting requirements, but we have now made the positive step to apply to ensure we have the right Business & Action plans in place to ensure our Clubs continued development for many years to come.
